Shimaa Hanafy is an Assistant Professor of Development Economics at the Division of International Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul, South Korea. She received her doctorate in economics from Philipps-Universitaet Marburg in Germany and the German Diplom in economics (equivalent to a combined Master’s and Bachelor’s degree) from Passau University in Germany. Shimaa Hanafy received the Ibn Khaldun Prize for best paper from the Middle East Economic Association (MEEA) and the Best Young Researcher Award from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Philipps-Universitaet Marburg. Her research interests cover political economy, development economics, institutional economics and international economics with a special focus on Egypt and MENA countries. She participated in many international conferences (e.g. ASSA, EPCS, ERF, ISNIE, KAMES, KISA, MEEA) and her papers are published in the peer-reviewed journals Public Choice, Political Research Quarterly and Journal of International Trade and Economic Development.
