Jackline Wahba

Jackline Wahba is a Professor of Economics and Director of Research at the Department of Economics at the University of Southampton (United Kingdom) and an applied labour economist specialising in international migration and refugee economics. She leads the Migration Research at the ESRC Research Centre for Population Change (CPC), at the University of Southampton. In 2020, she was awarded an OBE for her contributions to economic policy. She served as a member of the UK Migration Advisory Committee from 2012 to 2021. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, an elected member of the Royal Economic Society Council, and a council member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). She is also a research fellow of IZA, CReAM, and ERF, as well as a member of the Economic Research Forum Board of Trustees and the Migration Observatory Expert Advisory Board at the University of Oxford. She has published extensively in leading economic journals and has advised several international organisations, including the European Commission, the World Bank, UNDP, the African Development Bank, and the OECD. She is a member of the Editorial Board of World Development. Previously, she was the Managing Editor for IZA Journal of Labor & Development and IZA Journal of Development & Migration.
