Professor Lamia Mokaddem is a Tunisian economist specializing in sustainable development, environmental governance, and regional economics. She serves as Professor of Economics and Head of the Research Laboratory "Economics of Sustainable Development, Natural Resources, and Agriculture" (LEDDRNA) at the University of Tunis El Manar, Tunisia. With a PhD in Economics (2004) from the University of Tunis, her 25+ year academic career has focused on addressing socio-ecological challenges in Tunisia and the Global South. Her research spans environmental policy, natural resource management, regional development disparities, and energy poverty, with a strong emphasis on equitable and sustainable solutions. Prof. Mokaddem leads transformative initiatives, including: • The GEL-GINTEL Bizerte Project (2024–present), an EU-funded program for lagoon decontamination and sustainable governance. • The BleuAct National Consortium (2025–present), advancing blue economy strategies in Tunisia. • The Tunisian Association for Research, Innovation, and Sustainable Development (ATRIADD), promoting grassroots sustainability action. Her recent publications address critical issues like energy poverty in Senegal, regional efficiency in Tunisia, and environmental governance of coastal ecosystems. Notably, her work on the Bizerte Lagoon analyzes stakeholder conflicts and power dynamics to advance equitable resource management and ecological resilience. A globally engaged scholar, she has been a visiting professor at the University of Palermo (Italy) and collaborates with institutions like UNDP. She actively participates in international forums on sustainable development, environmental policy, and economic equity. Prof. Mokaddem’s work bridges academic rigor with policy impact, advocating for inclusive governance models that balance ecological integrity with socio-economic well-being in vulnerable regions.
