Harnessing Industry 4.0 and Skills Development to Accelerate Mediterranean Energy Clusters’ Impact

FromOct 13, 2025 To Oct 13, 2025

Online Webinar

Energy clusters in the Mediterranean region serve as crucial engines for industrialization, innovation, and the integration of clean energy value chains. According to the EuroMed Cluster Forward (ECF) project’s Mapster database1, approximately 15% of the 82 identified South Mediterranean clusters are active in the energy sector. This highlights the strategic potential of clusters as key drivers in advancing sustainable energy solutions across the region.

The Trans-Mediterranean Energy and Clean Tech Cooperation Initiative (T-MED), launched by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in October 2021, aims to foster regional cooperation in clean energy, accelerate technology deployment, and stimulate investment flows. Energy clusters, by aggregating industry players, innovators, and policy stakeholders, provide an effective platform to operationalize T-MED’s goals — from scaling clean technologies and enhancing cross-border energy trade, to promoting innovation ecosystems and workforce development. Concurrently, the New Pact for the Mediterranean represents a strategic framework designed to enhance regional integration, sustainable development, and economic resilience through sectoral cooperation across Mediterranean countries. While discussions and groundwork have been underway for some time, the Pact is scheduled to be officially announced and launched in October 2025.The Pact advocates for enhanced partnerships between Northern and Southern Mediterranean countries which could leverage cluster cooperation to bridge gaps in policy, finance, and technology adoption.

Against this background, the Economic Research Forum (ERF) is organizing a webinar to highlight the potential of energy clusters in the South Med region, focusing on key findings, challenges, and bottlenecks in the value chains. It will foster dialogue among stakeholders to address these challenges. The webinar will also present policy toolkits, recommendations, and ongoing twinning projects to promote innovation and sustainable development within the sector.

The webinar will bring together cluster managers, policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to discuss key themes, including digital transformation, workforce development & technology innovation in the Mediterranean energy sector.
