Valerie Boctor is an Egyptian American economist and Research Data Scientist at Google, where she applies causal inference, experimental methods, and large-scale data to study consumer behavior and decision-making in advertising. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2025. Her research spans household finance, macroeconomics, and public policy, focusing on how households respond to financial stress, information, credit access, and policy interventions. Previously, Valerie held roles at Capital One, the Bank for International Settlements, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. At the BIS, she contributed to research on fiscal deficits and inflation risk during the COVID-19 crisis, later featured in the IMF Seminars Recommended Reading. At the OCC, she analyzed regulatory compliance and risk-management policy for commercial banks. She graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University with degrees in Economics, Political Science, and Modern Foreign Languages, with concentrations in Arabic and French.
