Shaimaa Yassin

Shaimaa Yassin is currently the Research Director at the Institute for Research on Public Policy in Canada. Previously, she was Senior Director of Analytics and Strategic Integration at the Community Economic Development and Employability Corporation (CEDEC) in Canada. Prior to that she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the department of Economics at McGill University in Montreal in Canada and a fellow of the prestigious Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Mobility Program. Yassin is also a research associate at the Economic Research Forum in Cairo where she previously served as an Economic researcher and a Project officer responsible for the Labor and Human development theme and all its data collection related projects, between 2010 and 2012. Her research interests span the fields of labor economics, econometrics, impact evaluation and development. A common thread in her research involves understanding puzzling labor market outcomes and the role of public policies in influencing both the demand and the supply forces which operate in these markets. Yassin has served as a consultant to several international and regional organizations as the World Bank Group, SILATECH, the Economic Research Forum, and the Chaire Sécurisation des Parcours Professionnels" in France. She has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Comparative Economics, Demographic Research, IZA journal of development and migration and Middle East Development Journal. She is the author of one book on the labor market in France, and has contributed to two Oxford University Press volumes on labor markets in the Middle East and North Africa region.
