Reem Aslan is a specialist in international development, management, and women’s economic empowerment. She has extensive experience with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in the Arab States region and with Global Affairs Canada. She has also provided consulting services to a range of institutions, including the Queen Rania Teacher Academy, the World Bank, and the Embassy of Canada to Jordan, among others. Currently, Reem manages the ILO’s Decent Work for Women programme. In this role, she has contributed to significant legislative and policy advancements aimed at strengthening alignment with International Labour Standards, particularly in the areas of labour rights and social protection for women, including women with disabilities and migrant women. Her work focuses on key issues such as equal pay, maternity and paternity protection, non-discrimination in employment and occupation, work–life balance, and the promotion of a world of work free from violence and harassment. Together with a network of activists and national organizations, Reem has co-founded several initiatives, including Together on Boards for Leadership and Equal Opportunities, Women in Sports, and the Stand Up for Teachers campaign, among others. She also serves on the boards of several civil society organizations and on a few award committees. She is fluent in English and Arabic and has a good command of French.
