Former Governor, Central Bank of Tunisia

Marouane El Abassi holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne. He joined the World Bank in January 2008 as a senior economist to coordinate the activity program for Libya. In 2012, he became head of the institution's office in the country. Marouane El Abassi has served as a senior advisor at the Arab Institute of Business Leaders (IACE), an expert at the Tunisian Institute of Strategic Studies, and an economic advisor at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Handicrafts, responsible for leading the World Bank-funded export development project. On February 16, 2018, he was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia by Presidential Decree No. 2018-13.
