He started African Renaissance Partners to back those entrepreneurs, and help catalyze VC as a force to break the cycle of poverty and conflict and replace it with opportunity and shared prosperity. He has worked in a number of investment, strategy, and policy roles, including in crisis, turnaround, and post-conflict situations such as the Asian Financial Crisis, Arab Spring, and post-revolution Sudan. At Omidyar Network, he focused on early-stage technology investing, particularly beneficial technology that delivers positive outcomes for people and society, while also creating value for innovators and investors. In nearly two decades with the World Bank Group, in operational and managerial roles, he worked in Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia, in contexts ranging from high-growth middle-income countries to fragile and conflict-affected situations. He advised the Minister of Finance on an economic recovery strategy, helped design and implement key macroeconomic reforms, and led the design of a large cash transfer program and financial sector recovery strategy.
