Haidar Fraihat
Director General of the Department of Statistics, Jordan
Dr. Haidar holds a doctorate in scientific management from the Illinois Institute of Technology, United States of America in 1992 and a master's degree in business administration in information systems management from Bridgeport University, United States of America in 1988. Dr. Fraihat has over 40 years of experience in the work of governments and international organizations as well as academic and research work. He is currently the Director-General of Jordan's Department of Statistics and served as Director of the Statistics and Information & Communications Technology Division of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) from 2011 to 2023. Before joining the United Nations, he held various leadership and government positions between 2006-2011 in Jordan, most notably the Director-General of the Department of Statistics in 2008 and the Director-General of the National Information Technology Centre in 2006. He began his busy career in 1992 as a professor and lecturer at several national and international universities such as Chicago State University, Illinois Technology Institute, Roosevelt University of America, Petroleum and Minerals University of Saudi Arabia, Sohar University of Amman, and Petra University. At the regional level, Dr. Haidar is currently the President of the Union of Arab Statisticians. His research interests include applied statistics, economics, management information systems, scientific management, quantitative methodologies, scientific management, and economics, and he has overseen several master's and doctoral theses. Over the years of his career, Dr. Haidar has been a member of Jordan's entry negotiations for membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Jordanian Privatization Team, and the Jordanian-European Partnership Team, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Planning of Jordan, and has worked to establish the Information and Technology Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Qatar. During his career, Dr. Fraihat published more than 50 research papers, including published research, court, and numerous research and working papers, which were discussed and presented at several important scientific conferences and seminars.
