Dr. Wafa Fahmi Abdelati has 36 years of experience at the International Monetary Fund (1996-2026) and the World Bank (1991-1996) following studies at Princeton. For 14 years, she authored reports on taxation of petroleum products, growth determinants, de-dollarization, country economic performance and financing requirements, banking soundness, transparency of fiscal accounts; supported Western Hemisphere management; and assisted IMF strategic communications. For 16 years at IMF’s Executive Board, she supported Egypt, Jordan, U.A.E., Oman, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Maldives in their program negotiations and surveillance; contributed to deliberations by authoring 500 Executive Board statements on a broad range of policy issues covering pivotal global events like the Asian Financial Crisis, the Global Financial Crisis, European sovereign debt crises, and post pandemic recovery efforts; reviewed Consultations with major economies like the United States, China, Russia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and many others; and participated in numerous international and regional fora. Previously at the World Bank, she supported Eastern Europe’s economic transition.
