Virginia Bodolica is The Said T. Khoury Chair of Leadership Studies, the Head of Department of Management, Strategy & Entrepreneurship, and a Professor of Strategic Management in the School of Business Administration at the American University of Sharjah in the UAE. She is a passionate academic, an advocate of cross-disciplinary research and practice, and an award-winning case studies’ writer. Her research interests are related to corporate leadership dynamics and soft and hard governance issues in for-profit settings, family-owned enterprises, entrepreneurial ventures, and healthcare institutions. Among other scholarly outlets, Virginia has published in the Academy of Management Annals, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of World Business, Strategic Organization, Journal of Business Ethics, Technovation, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Journal of Business Research. She co-authored and co-edited several books, including Mergers and Acquisitions and Executive Compensation, Corporate Governance in Arab Countries, and Managing Organizations in the United Arab Emirates. Virginia serves on the editorial board of a number of academic journals, consults with local and international businesses, facilitates corporate-level strategic retreats, delivers executive education sessions and customized programs, and is regularly invited as a guest speaker at professional conferences, workshops and events. She edited special issues on leadership topics in various academic journals and her work was featured and published in practitioner-focused journals, such as Harvard Business Review Arabia and Strategic Direction. She won several Best Paper Awards from leading scholarly conferences, while her involvement in professional services has earned her many Outstanding Reviewer Awards from various Academy of Management’s divisions.
