The Economics of Healthcare in the ERF Region

FromMay 22, 2016 To May 22, 2016

Cairo, Egypt

Equity and efficiency of healthcare services are fundamental drivers of social justice and economic development. The MENA region has made remarkable progress in terms of expanding access to basic health services and improving the health status of its population, yet problems of inadequate and inequitable access to modest quality health care persist.

Against this backdrop, the Economic Research Forum (ERF) launched a call for proposals, in the context of the 16th round of the ERF-GDN Regional Research Competition, under the theme of “Economics of Healthcare in the ERF Region”. ERF received 9 proposals, out of which the refereeing committee selected 7 projects for funding. The draft papers of these projects will be presented and discussed in this workshop.

The objective of the workshop was to provide a platform for discussing the draft papers and their preliminary findings among authors and experts in order to improve the final output. The workshop was also intended to promote interaction between researchers with interest in the topic. It was held in collaboration with the MENA Health Policy Forum (MENA HPF)
