Education in the ERF Region
FromJul 26, 2015 To Jul 26, 2015
Cairo, Egypt
Over the past few decades, most Arab countries have allocated large investments to education and many of them adopted a policy of free public education for all. As a result, enrollment rates saw significant increases and the average years of schooling went up notably. Notwithstanding this progress, new challenges are becoming evident, including modest learning outcomes and returns to education, poor quality of education and low contribution of education to economic growth.
Against this backdrop, ERF launched a call for proposals on “Education in the ERF Region”, in the context of the 15th round of the ERF-GDN Regional Research Competition, inviting ERF affiliate and non-affiliate researchers to submit original proposals for research on the topic. Five projects comprising 9 research papers were selected for funding. These papers will be presented and discussed in this workshop.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
The objective of the workshop is to provide a platform for discussing the first drafts of the papers and their findings among authors and experts and receive feedback in order to improve the final output. The workshop is also intended to promote interaction between researchers with interest in the topic.
AGENDA
The workshop will convene for 1 day, gathering around 30 participants. Each session will last for an hour and a half where the presenters will speak for 20 minutes each, the discussant for 20 minutes. The remaining 30 minutes will be devoted to open discussion.
