Ambassador Wael Aboulmagd is a Career Diplomat with over 30 years of service in the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and institutions. His areas of specialization include Public International Law, Human Rights Law, United Nations practice and procedures, Democratic transitions and Constitutional Law, International Environmental Law and practice.

  • Represented Egypt at numerous International Conferences and events including Summit and Ministerial Conferences of the United Nations, The Arab League, The Organization of Islamic Conference, The Non-Aligned Movement as well as conferences and meetings of the UN and its specialized agencies. Has also represented Egypt at 11 sessions of the UN Authority for the Law of the Sea where he presided over several working groups and drafting committees during the institution building phase of the Authority.
  • Rapporteur, Sixth Committee of the 47th Session the United Nations General Assembly.
  • Intellectual Property: Lead negotiator, Drafting Committee of the Diplomatic Conference on Certain Copyright and neighboring Rights, Geneva, December 1996.
  • Human Rights: Chairman of the Egyptian Governmental Committee preparing for, and participating in Egypt´s first Universal Periodic Review at the United Nations Human Rights Council. (2010)
  • Combating Human Trafficking: Chairman, Drafting Committee for the Egyptian Legislation on Combating Trafficking in Persons (TiP). In this capacity, was responsible for all aspects of drafting, promoting and passing legislation into law by Egyptian Parliament (Law No. 64/2010).
  • Climate Change: Head of delegation of Egypt and lead negotiator, The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change (UNFCCC), September 2016 to November 2019.
  • Chairman, Group of 77 and China for the Climate Change process, January – December 2018.
  • Biodiversity: Head of delegation, Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) Cop 13, Cancun, December 2016. Head of delegation of Egypt CoP14 and member of National Organization Committee of the host country.
  • Head of delegation and lead negotiator, UNEA 3, Nairobi, December 2017, UNEA 4, Nairobi March 2019.  Lectured extensively in Egypt and overseas on issues of Public International Law and practice, Human Rights Law and practice, Human Trafficking and International Environmental Law and practice.
