Tarig Ahmed
Regional Programme Officer, IRENA
Tarig has more than 15 years of experience in the energy sector and renewable energy industry in different parts of the world and is currently leading IRENA engagement within the Middle East and North Africa as Regional Programme Officer. Prior to his current role, Tarig led the Climate Investment Platform and the project facilitation activities within the Investment Forums. Before joining IRENA, Tarig was an Energy Specialist at the World Bank Group based in Khartoum coordinating the WB engagement with the Government of Sudan. As part of his earlier experience, Tarig held various positions ranging from Project Engineer at UNDP/GEF Wind Energy Project, Consultant with UNDP Sudan for Energy program, and Energy Specialist at Sudan’s Ministry of Electricity. His experience covers renewable energy project planning and development, energy policies, energy economics, and climate finance. Tarig holds MSc degree in Sustainable Energy and Entrepreneurship from the University of Nottingham, after receiving the prestigious Chevening Scholarships Award, from the Government of the UK. Additionally, he has been awarded the Fulbright/Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship from the US Department of State, where he studied Natural resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate change at Cornell University, NY, USA.
