Tarek Selim

Professor of Economics and Business Strategy, American University in Cairo

Tarek Selim has 30 years experience in microeconomics, game theory, business economics, and cost-benefit analysis. He is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Economics in the School of Business at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He has been visiting research faculty at MIT and faculty affiliate to the Microeconomics of Competitiveness Network at Harvard Business School. He serves on the global expert council of the World Economic Forum. He received Best Research Professor from AUC School of Business and is a Lifetime Research Fellow at the Economic Research Forum. He is a founding member of the Alfred P. Sloan Industry Studies Association and has been senior economic advisor to the Egyptian Competition Authority. He has a PhD in economics from George Washington University, MBA from Johns Hopkins University, MS in economics from Iowa State University, MS in industrial engineering and BS in mechanical engineering from AUC. He holds professional management programs from MIT, Harvard, Georgetown, Oxford, and Imperial College. His international consulting and research work has covered many industries including steel, cement, automotive, natural gas, petroleum, food processing, carpets, pharmaceuticals, gold, marble and granite, tourism, solar energy, telecom, and nuclear power generation.
