
Sheheryar Banuri

Dr Sheheryar Banuri is an internationally recognized behavioral economist, an author, and a scholar-practitioner. He is currently the Dean of College at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge, and Associate Professor of Economics at the University of East Anglia. He is a pioneer in the field of behavioral development economics, specializing in motivation, governance, discrimination, and incentive design. His research agenda focuses on three main areas: (i) public service motivation and effort, (ii) bias measurement and impact of de-biasing techniques with elite samples, and (iii) gender-based discrimination. He has nearly two decades of research experience and has provided policy guidance to multiple government agencies. He routinely consults for multilateral organizations, providing policy advice and intellectual support. His work has been published in leading academic journals in Economics, Computer Science, Medicine, and Psychology, and he is a co-author of the World Bank’s influential World Development Report 2015: Mind, Society, and Behavior. He is also the author of two popular books on decision-making: Good Decisions for Strange Situations and The Decisive Mind (shortlisted for the Best Behavioral Science book award).
