Nizar Jouini

Dr. Nizar Jouini received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of François Rabelais, Tours, France, in 2014. He joined the Doha Institute in 2016 and served as Chair of the Public Policy Program from 2016 to 2021. Before joining the Doha Institute, Dr. Nizar was an Assistant Professor at the University of Tunis (2011–2015), a research fellow at McMaster University, a Commitment to Equity Research Fellow at Tulane University, and a WTO Chair Research Fellow. He also served as an economist consultant for the African Development Bank (AfDB) from 2007 to 2014, where he contributed to several key AfDB publications, including the African Economic Prospects, African Competitiveness Report, African Development Journal, and various Country and Regional Strategy Papers. His current research focuses on the political economy of democratization in the Middle East, structural transformation and development, the effects of public finance on poverty and inequality, and trade and development. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Development Economics, Review of Income and Wealth, Canadian Journal of Development Studies, Policy and Politics Journal, and British Columbia Press.
