Dr. Manal Shehabi is an Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College, the University of Oxford, and Founding Director of UK-based SHEER Research & Advisory Ltd. She is Research Associate of the Centre for Climate & Energy Policy of the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy; and Member of the Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions at The Australian National University; and Advisory Board Member of EFI-KAPSARC joint energy transitions research project. Previously she was Senior Research Fellow and OIES-KFAS Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, and Doctoral Researcher and Tutor at the University of Western Australia. An applied economist, her main research areas are economic, energy, and resource sustainability and policy in resource-dependent economies, focusing on MENA economies, as well as socioeconomic impacts of policies (industrial, energy transition, and climate, economic). She publishes in academic journals, books, and policy reports. Her research has global impact and was featured in media. Among others, she constructed an economic model for policymaking in Kuwait, delivered capacity building to policymakers, and was lead author on policy briefs (T7 (G7), T20 (G20), Kuwait Energy Outlook 2022). She was contributing author to the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean & Cryosphere (6th Assm.), and a report to UNFCCC on impacts of response measures. She was reviewer of work relating to national hydrogen strategies (Kuwait, EU). She is a consultant to the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the UNFCCC. Beyond academia, she gained professional experience in industry (in-house and consulting) and business public policy working in the US, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe. She frequently advises policymakers and firms. A polyglot, her language capabilities include Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese.
