Hebatalla Atef Emam

Associate Professor of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University

Hebatalla A. Emam is currently working as an Associate Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, where she teaches Monetary Theory and Policy, Macroeconomic Theory, International Finance, and Feasibility Study and Project Evaluation courses. She obtained her Masters and PhD degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University in 2012 and 2018, respectively. Her Master’s thesis covered the Determinants of Portfolio Investments in Emerging Markets, while her PhD thesis tackled the issue of Assessing the Independence of the Central Bank of Egypt. At present, she is also acting as an economic research expert at the Central Bank of Egypt, where she carried out some quantitative studies on the Egyptian economy related to monetary transmission mechanisms, exchange rate pass-through to inflation, and credit-growth nexus. Moreover, she participated as an economic expert in consultancy/research projects funded by the USAID in Egypt, Administrative Control Authority, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, and the Institute of National Planning. Her research interests incorporate monetary economics, central banking, and international finance, where she has published some research papers in international peer-reviewed journals. She has also participated in international conferences like MEEA and ASSA annual conferences (where she was granted the Ibn Khaldun Prize in 2020 for the best paper award). She has also served as a research associate at the Economic Research Forum (ERF) and acted as a reviewer in international peer-reviewed journals.
