Emre Ozçelik

Associate Professor of Economics, Middle East Technical University

Emre Özçelik is currently Associate Professor of Economics at the Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus ((METU-NCC). He obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Economics at METU, Ankara Campus, Turkey, in 1998, 2000 and 2006, respectively. He participated in a two-week workshop entitled ‘Cambridge Advanced Programme on Rethinking Development Economics’ (CAPORDE, funded by the Ford Foundation) in July 2002. He was a post-doctoral Visiting Scholar at the Development Studies Committee of the University of Cambridge, UK (funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, TÜBİTAK) from September 2007 to August 2008. He has been a full-time faculty member at METU-NCC since September 2010 and served as the Coordinator of Economics Program from September 2012 to April 2021. He has taught such courses as Introductory Economics, International Economics, Development Economics, Structure of the Turkish Economy, Economic History, and History of Economic Thought. He is the English-to-Turkish translator of Reclaiming Development: An Alternative Economic Policy Manual (by Ha-Joon Chang & Ilene J. Grabel, Zed Books). He published articles in such academic journals as Research Policy, Journal of Economic Issues, Development and Change, and Cambridge Journal of Economics, along with many book chapters. He co-edited four books (in Turkish and English) – one on the contemporary relevance of John Maynard Keynes, and the other three on the Turkish economy. The latest book he co-edited is entitled: Political Economy of Development in Turkey: 1838-Present, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2022. Political Economy, Development Economics and the Turkish economy are his main research areas.
