
Emmanuel Orkoh

Dr. Emmanuel Orkoh is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala, Sweden, and an Extraordinary Research Scientist with the TRADE research focus area at North-West University, South Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from North-West University, Potchefstroom, as well as a Master of Philosophy in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Dr. Orkoh’s research examines the welfare and distributional impacts of trade, health, and labor market policies, with a particular focus on digital development in Africa and other developing regions. He has collaborated on research projects for numerous national and international institutions, including the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Institute of African Leadership for Sustainable Development (UONGOZI Institute), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). Beyond his research contributions, Dr. Orkoh was instrumental in establishing the Centre for Data Archiving, Analysis, and Advocacy (C-DAMAA) at the University of Cape Coast’s School of Economics in Ghana. He is also an active member of several academic and policy networks, including the African Growth and Development Policy Modeling Consortium (AGRODEP), the Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences (BITSS), and the Pan-African Scientific Research Council (PASRC). In 2018, Dr. Orkoh was selected for the WTO’s Ph.D. Support Programme, which promotes research on WTO-related topics among doctoral students from developing countries. Since 2023, he has been engaged in transdisciplinary research projects exploring the intersection of climate hazards and migration in Madagascar, as well as the relationship between taxation and informality in Africa.
