Asad Alam is the regional director for equitable growth, finance and institutions in the eastern and southern Africa region of the World Bank. He has more than 30 years of experience working on development issues in many countries in sub-saharan Africa, middle east and north Africa, and eastern Europe. He has strong issues in areas of macroeconomic policy, growth and productivity, poverty, inequality, international trade, and labor. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University and a B.Sc. Econ from The London School of Economics and Political Science.
