Adam Elhiraika

Senior Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Sudan

Adam Elhiraika is currently on loan from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and serving as Senior Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Sudan. From 01 February 2014 to 29 February 2020, he was Director of the Macroeconomics and Governance Division, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). He directly oversees ECA work on development planning, macroeconomic policy analysis and economic governance and public finance. He has a PhD in economics from the University of Glasgow, UK, and over 30 years of experience in private sector, academia, multilateral development finance and international organizations. Before joining the United Nations in 2004, he worked for the Islamic Development Bank and Shell International and taught economics at five Universities in the UK, Africa and the Middle East. His intellectual contributions and policy expertise are focused on issues of economic governance and development planning, macroeconomic policy and development finance with special interest in industrialization, inclusive growth and structural economic transformation.
