Abebe Shimeles is currently Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town, Department of Economics. Previously he has worked for The African Economic Research Consortium, The African Development Bank, The World Bank, UNECA, ACTIONAID, Addis Ababa University, and Institute for the Study of Ethiopian Nationalities in different capacities. His recent research interest lies in the broad areas of development economics with a focus on Africa.
