Abdullah Demir

Associate Professor, Abdullah Gül University

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Demir is a civil engineer whose research bridges engineering, economics, and sustainability, with a particular focus on the economic resilience of infrastructure systems. His work examines how natural hazards, especially earthquakes, floods, and geohazards, translate into long-term economic losses, and how sustainable planning of critical infrastructure can mitigate these impacts. He has published extensively on renewable energy site selection, disaster waste management, and life-cycle–integrated decision frameworks that enhance the economic efficiency of solar and wind investments. Dr. Demir also contributes to regional economic studies, including the development of a Disaster Resilience Index for MENA countries presented at ERF 2024, which quantifies disaster-related economic vulnerabilities and their macroeconomic consequences. Currently an Associate Professor at Abdullah Gül University, he integrates GIS-based modelling, risk analytics, and sustainability metrics to support evidence-based, economically grounded policy recommendations.
