Abdelrahman Nagy
Director of Learning and Strategy, Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD)
As the Director of Learning and Strategy at the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD), I lead efforts in learning, evaluations, capacity building, research, policy, and innovation. With 20 years of experience in the social development sector, I have collaborated with international organizations and Egyptian donors to design, implement, and assess the impact of development programs. My work centers around randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and evidence-based initiatives, driven by the belief that rigorous scientific evidence is key to addressing poverty efficiently. Prior to joining SFSD, I served as a Senior Advisor at J-PAL MENA and played key roles as Director of the J-PAL initiative for Egypt and Associate Director for Research at J-PAL MENA. I nurtured partnerships and disseminated evidence from J-PAL evaluations to aid organizations in refining their programs. I managed J-PAL research projects in Egypt, fostering collaboration with partners, policymakers, and professors to find innovative solutions to poverty challenges. I am a socio-economic researcher and principal investigator for projects such as "What Do Jobseekers Want?" and "Measuring the Impact of Subsidizing Nursery Fees on Female Labor Force Participation." My academic background includes postgraduate diplomas in Economics, Public Policy, and Research Methods, along with an MA in Quality and Statistical Control from Cairo University and an MA in International and Comparative Education from the American University in Cairo. Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics at UNU at Maastricht University.
