Souraya El Assiouty
Social Protection Specialist, World Bank's Cairo office
Souraya El Assiouty is a Social Protection Specialist the World Bank's Cairo office. Since her start at the World Bank, Souraya has honed her expertise across a diverse array of sectors, with focus on the nexus of social protection, gender equality, and human capital development. She has worked on Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti. She is currently the task team leader of the Takaful and Karama project, and leading the social protection engagement in Egypt, including social assistance, cash transfers, social insurance and pension reforms. Prior to joining the World Bank, Souraya worked in the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council. She is an alumna of the American University in Cairo, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master's in Public Policy. She is also a distinguished Lauréate of the Programme Femme d’Avenir en Méditerranée from Sciences Po Paris.
