Roland Sarton
Employment Specialist, International Labour Organization
Roland Sarton is the Employment Specialist since May 2023 at the International Labour Organization Decent Work Team for North Africa, based in Cairo, Egypt. Roland is supporting the ILO tripartite constituents (government, employers and workers organizations) to promote employment and decent work in 12 countries in the North Africa region including Egypt. Prior to his appointment, Roland was advisor at the Cabinet of the Minister of employment and vocational training of the regional government of Brussels, Belgium working on vocational training strategies and innovative public-private partnerships to promote skills for employment. Roland has extensive working experience within the UN system as Project Manager on youth employment and university graduates transition to work in Algeria (2016-2019), PMO for the Mobile Money for the Poor Programme implemented by UNCDF (2015-2016) and programme officer in charge of democratic governance projects and youth initiatives for the UNDP in Algeria (2009-2013). Roland also worked in Chad, Burundi and China for international NGOs and started his career in the private sector working in Finance for General Electric. His is graduated from the Solvay Brussels Schools of Economics in Belgium.
