Mayada Hassanain

Economist, Researcher, and Development Practitioner

Mayada Hassanain, is an Economist, Researcher, and Development Practitioner with over 10 years of experience. She holds an MSc in Development Economics from SOAS and a Bsc in Economics from University of Khartoum. She is a Chevening Scholar in 2017 and an Atlas Corps Fellow in. While serving as an Economic Advisor at Foreign Common Development Office, Mayada has led the design of public financial management programs and economic literacy projects. She is particularly passionate about working with young women on education and advocacy related to gender equality and women's empowerment. Mayada is Co-founder of Shelearns, an initiative that supports girls education in Khartoum by removing barriers including problems of child marriage, FGM as well as financial constraints. She has research experience with a number of international organizations in Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Lebanon including the International Labour Organization, UN-WOMEN, British Council, and UNICEF.
