The Impact of Fiscal Policy on Inequality and Poverty in the Arab Countries, Iran and Turkey

The main objective of this study to analyze the impact of taxation and public spending (funded with local resources or ODA) on inequality and poverty, the incidence of (direct and indirect) taxes and benefits and the equity of access to services (in particular, education and health; and, urban infrastructure if data permits) in Egypt. The objective will be accomplished by applying a standardized method of tax and benefit incidence analysis and a comprehensive diagnostic questionnaire to assess the equity and effectiveness of revenue collection and public spending patterns in Egypt. The project will span 24 months, starting April 2014. The main output of this study will be a completed tax and benefit incidence analysis for Egypt.
