3rd Workshop of the Research Initiative on the Economics of the Middle East – 5-6 November, 2018

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers working on different aspects of economic development in the Middle East and North Africa, with a particular emphasis on economic policies in the region. The workshop is open to considering rigorous research from economists, historians and political scientists. Fresh PhDs and early career researchers are especially encouraged to apply.

The following sub-themes will be especially welcome in the Paris workshop:

  • Conflict and post-conflict
  • Economic history and development in the region
  • Labour markets and social policies
  • Migration and refugees: economic and political aspects
  • Monetary and fiscal policies in the Arab world
  • Natural resources and political institutions
  • Political economy of reforms in the post-Arab spring context
  • Structural transformation of the economies of the region

Funding. It is hoped that most participants will be able to finance their travel and accommodation from their own institutions, but a small fund will be available to help those who cannot (particularly PhD students and young researchers). A list of suitable hotels will be circulated nearer the time.
